Vinci Park Successfully Opened State of the Art Car Park for Addenbrooke’s Hospital

Addenbrooke's Hospital Car Park

Vinci Park UK opened a new state of the art £14 million car park at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, in June 2014, adding 1,228 new parking spaces for visitors, patients and staff. As part of a 30 year concession contract with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Vinci Park led on the design, construction and preparatory works for the new car park.

The contract was awarded following a competitive tendering process, and forms part of the extensive wider development at Addenbrooke’s meeting the Trust’s ambition to become the best biomedical campus in Europe, while also serving an increasing local population, an ambition which Vinci Park is proud to be a part of.

The innovative design of the new car park incorporates a “twisted” aluminium structure, with a living green wall running round the perimeter and a green roof to create an attractive and durable facility. The new facility has already been inspected and awarded a park mark for safer parking by the British Parking Association.

The car park is also packed with green initiatives such as photovoltaic solar panels, which will provide the site with up to 20% of its own energy from renewable sources. In addition, provision has been made for electric cars and bikes to allow staff and visitors to utilise greener methods of transport and also more disabled spaces have been created at the site, increasing capacity for disabled parking further.

The car park completed on time will help alleviate demand at the site and provide alternative parking during the next development phase for the site’s expansion.

Phillip Herring, Managing Director, Vinci Park UK commented:

“This partnership with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has allowed us to implement our extensive knowledge of hospital parking at such an important site for the future of British healthcare.

Using the latest technologies and innovations will ensure we continue to provide an attractive and convenient parking experience for staff and patients over the next three decades. We are excited to have completed the construction of the car park and look forward to meeting the expectations of patients, visitors and staff in the coming decades.”
