Vinci Park celebrates opening of £9m new hospital car park

A 60-strong audience gathered at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital on Thursday 26 May to celebrate the official opening of Vinci Park’s new multi-storey car park. The impressive car park, which opened on time and on budget, will provide staff, visitors and patients with more than 1000 new parking spaces over four levels.

The occasion was marked with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Mark Evans, Chief Executive, Vinci Park and Professor Clair Chilvers, Chair, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which will be located outside the new parking shop.

The newly designed car park includes a series of timber louvre panels rotated to create a wave effect, which prevent car headlights from being seen by nearby properties, while also providing natural ventilation and light. This unique design means that the car park, although clearly visible to patient’s staff and visitors, is not oppressive and fits into the wider landscape of the hospital site. Inside the car park all users will now benefit from new pay-on-foot technology in convenient locations, an innovative number plate recognition system to avoid queuing at the entry and exit barriers and a purpose built parking shop, to deal with all parking related enquiries.

Mark Evans, Vinci Park’s Chief Executive, comments:

"We’re delighted to have opened this new car park at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital – our first DBFO project with the Trust. This innovative car park is a significant milestone in our long term partnership with the Trust and represents our commitment to improving parking at the hospital site.Vinci Park has a proven track record of taking a long term approach, turning hospital car parks into well-managed, cost and space efficient sites and we’re extremely pleased that the Trust has already begun to notice a difference for the car park users."

Professor Clair Chilvers, Chair, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, comments:

"Back in 2007, we recognised a need to change the parking available to staff, patients and visitors at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Following a competitive tender process, we decided to work in partnership with Vinci Park because of their extensive experience of building and managing hospital car parks"The response from patients and staff has been overwhelmingly positive and it’s great to know that the new multi-storey is making an immediate difference to our patients and staff.  We look forward to working with Vinci Park throughout the duration of the contract."
