Vinci Park UK opens £7.9 million green car park at Lister Hospital

Vinci Park UK, the specialist parking operator, today opens the new £7.9 million car park it has designed, built and financed at Lister Hospital in Stevenage.

The new 667-space multi-storey sources 10% of its energy from renewable sources and boasts the latest in green credentials including; a living green wall, recharging points for electric vehicles, a secure area for parking bicycles and a fully landscaped plaza incorporating a sculpture made from an oak tree and designed by a local artist. The car park also features a silent wind turbine and photo voltaic solar panels which together generate renewable electricity for the car park, a first for Vinci Park UK.

Vinci Park UK was awarded the 30-year Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contract to design, build, finance and operate the new multi-storey car park for East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust in June 2010. The new car park, which has taken one year to construct, boosts the total number of parking spaces at Lister Hospital to 1,650 an increase of 34% and will ensure a smoother parking experience for staff, patients and visitors alike. The number of blue badge spaces across the hospital site has nearly tripled, and the new MSCP provides wheel chair access, help points and a covered walkway leading directly to the hospital entrance.

Vinci Park UK Chief Executive, Mark Evans, said:
"We’re thrilled to be opening this car park at Lister Hospital, Vinci Park UK’s second new build car park in the healthcare sector to be completed on time and to budget in 2011. The car park features a number of ‘firsts’ for Vinci Park UK and we’re hopeful that our partnership with the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust will result in a significantly improved experience for patients and staff."

Nick Carver, CEO East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust said:
